It is going to be memorable to watch your child to take the first baby step. And after the walker became parent and children interest, it made easier for babies to move around on the floor independently.

The assumption going around that child learns to walk quickly with more exercise when they use walker rather than learning walking by their own. And children seem to enjoy in pushing the walker across the floor. Even the walker is used as to keep the baby engage for hours and parents can work freely.

But these assumptions went wrong when the debate started on “Are walkers good for babies or not”. And after that, it has been proved that walker generally leads to declining both mental and motor development. Also there are many other trouble comes with the use of walker.

Proper instructions to use walker

A child can move around in walker faster than his ability. Even he walks much faster than parent’s response towards consequences. And it leads to accidents and injuries like falling from stairs, pouring hot coffee over them and can reach to any unfavorable things.

I have come across many parents questioning me about the use of walker. I always suggest them to go ahead with natural growth of a child rather than trying to make them walk before their muscle and brain development. If still parents prefer to use walker, then I strongly recommend using it from 9 month onward but not before that. Also I strongly believe that parents have to be much more conscious when a child is on walker rather than using it as a baby sitter and let them go around independently.

Nowadays, walkers are designed and constructed after many studies and are much safer than before. You can click the links below to check the reviews of best walkers along fun rides in market.

Consequences of baby walker

Babies are developing in specific order starting from lifting head, to pushing body, sitting, crawling –and then walking. Their body muscles are developed in that specific order. Also, the mental development goes along with the physical development.

Buy putting a child on walker is not only drag a child to develop the muscles in an incorrect way which might lead to mental and physical development disorder. Also if a child follows the trend of walking on a walker on toes, it can leading to restricting the growth of calf muscles.

Parents must be aware of the negative aspect of walker which children are facing and has been proved. There are injuries can occur like on head and face. Also there are chances of trapping of fingers, bone fractures, skull fractures and even deaths.

Government of Canada has actually passed a law in 2004 and banned the advertising and sale of walkers. Even selling a second hand walker also is against the rule and any such act can head to a strong penalty. But still now, the walker is still using by rest of the world and is remarkably popular and accepted.

There is a time comes during the development period in a child life when they want to move across the floor and try to reach as much as possible. So, walkers make it easier for them to achieve that goal without stretching, crawling and more physical exercise.

To some extent, walkers are dangerous at some point. Children using walker are missing many physical development exercises so late in learning motor development skills rather than the children who are not using walker. Also the use of walker effects the mental development drastically that can lead to slow mental growth.

  1. This is a really valuable post. I think it is important to let a baby develop naturally and not try to push them don’t you? I have always thought of them starting to take that first step is as much about the development of their muscle strength as well their balance. I really don’t think they can only manage one small step in the beginning because they aren’t strong enough to stand but because they don’t have the ability to balance properly. I think it is better to allow natural development. What do you think?

    • Hi Margaret, good to hear from you. Even I believe that placing a toddler on walker before his/her appropriate age is going to give adverse affect in bones development. Also, many precautions need to be taken if a parent choosing to allow their baby to use a baby walker. Parents need to be much more conscious and should supervise a child properly.

Now a days, there are many walking along entertainment toys in the market which are safe to use but have to be use with proper care and also at correct age.

      Thanks
